Hugh Miller

Hugh Miller passed away March 6th. His wife May, Brother Jack, and niece Margaret pre-deceased him. He is survived by his son Kenneth (Charlotte), grandchildren Patrick and Kristen, and niece Jean (Richard Jr.). Hugh was born in New Jersey to Alexander and Mary Miller. He graduated from Bowling Green State University majoring in Business Administration and Mathematics. Hugh studied Engineering at Glasgow Tech University in Scotland. He met and married May in Scotland and son Kenneth was born there. The family moved back to the United States and Hugh began a long career at General Electric starting in Louisville Kentucky. After several Midwest moves the family moved to San Jose in 1978. Hugh enjoyed golfing and fishing in his youth. After retirement fishing became much more important to him. He fished in Alaska, Christmas Island, Scotland, Venezuela, Canada, and California. Hugh was active with San Jose Flycasters and the Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project. He volunteered for many years with the Fishing in the City program and coordinated the Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project STEP program for students to raise steelhead eggs in the classroom and release the fish in local streams. Hugh and May were charter members of the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Hugh was an avid gardener and his tomato plants were always a favorite. A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday May 27th at 11am at Holy Spirit Church, San Jose. A reception will be held afterwards at the church hall. The family wishes to thank his caregivers Grace and Arnel at Bonhomie Saratoga. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project or the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
