Sy Ruiz passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. He was one of six children to Salvador and Martina Ruiz, born on April 16, 1935, in the mountain town of Flagstaff, Arizona. At the young age of seven, Sy and his family moved to San Jose, California, in 1942.

Sy was an outstanding AAU Golden Gloves Flyweight Champion in his early years. Boxing was his passion before meeting and marrying Gloria Ernestine Banuelos in 1958. They had three children: Rebecca, Melissa, and Randy. He was a devoted father and a loving grandfather to his four grandchildren.

Sy loved enjoying and living life to the fullest with his family and close friends. He enjoyed boating, snow skiing, and spearfishing the lakes and rivers of California. As a self-made man, he was one of the first Income Tax Preparers on the east side of San Jose, where he operated his business for 51 years, retiring in 2014. Sy was a very outgoing, entertaining, and welcoming professional to his clients, many of which became lifelong personal friends.

Sy is survived by his children, Rebecca León (Juan), Melissa Ruiz (Javier Huerta), and Randy Ruiz (Desiree), former spouse Gloria Robles, sister Rachel Silva, brother Daniel Ruiz (Dolores), and grandchildren, Jacob Huerta (departed this life October 8, 2012), Jaclyn Ruiz, Lycia Faith Lucas, and Joshua Ruiz.
A memorial service will be held on May 22, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Roses at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Ave, San Jose.
