Jorette Bugna Obituary

Jorette Bugna
Jan. 16, 1924 - May 14, 2017
Resident of San Jose
Our dear Mom, Jorette Marie Jeanne Bugna passed away this past Mother's Day, May 14, 2017. She was born in Lyon, France on January 16, 1924 to the parents of Angelo and Adrianna Vaccari. She was the loving sister to Walter and Angelo. In 1928 the Vaccari family moved to North Africa, where they survived the violence of World War II. When the U.S. came to the aid of France, mom met and married the handsome American solider, Joseph P. Bugna, G.I. Joe. Months later mom and dad reunited in California, after Joe's discharge, first settling in Gilroy. The Bugna family then moved to Santa Clara in 1959, where Jorette was known as cook extraordinaire, animal lover, knitter and an amazing crafter, homemaker, family CFO, travel planner, and all around favorite mom of all her children's friends. Jorette gave her kids the world! In 1960, returning to Algeria for the first time, with her four young children in tow. We stayed for four memorable summer months. Today that would be considered insanity, but turned into a cultural, life changing adventure none would ever forget. Jorette loved her family, dancing, cooking, sewing and chatting over a cup of coffee with her friends, and had no problem jumping in when her boys were wrestling with their Dad on the family room floor. (Dad usually won). Jorette is survived by her four children, Walter, Joseph, Mark and Darlene and her seven grandchildren, Dominic, Divya, Joseph Philippe, Jacqueline, John Paul, Corbin and Amanda. Rest in peace mamma.

I will never forget how beautiful Jorette was in body as well as spirit. She always made me feel like the sun shown brighter when she smiled! She was our next door neighbor Mom for 8 years and I can remember her laughing all the time. I am so sorry for your loss but I am sure heaven's gain. God bless you all with the wonderful memories I know you have. Susan (Boyd) Lumen

My sisters and I were in elementary school when we were next door neighbor to the Bugna family. I remember Mrs Bugna was always so nice. There are a few stories I remember from Kindergarten - 2nd grade that maybe I shouldn't share on this platform. But to the 4 kids, I am sorry for your loss and glad we had time with your mom and the family.

Jorette was a woman full of unconditional love of music, dance, animals and her family.
I will always remember where she kept the Christmas cookies tucked away in that tubberware container! She was a Master Chef and the Best Baker. I know that Darlene has followed in Jorette's footsteps with the same culinary skills taught by Jorette.
I will always cherish her stories of the Beaches of Algiers and moving to America.
My Condolences and Deepest Sympathy to the Bugna Family.

XOXO
