Resident of San Jose
Joy was born 2/24/36 in Hollister, CA to Cudahy Flautt and JoAnn Matulich. She passed away due to complications from Parkinson's Disease.
She was preceded in death by her son Christopher. She is survived by her husband of almost 62 years, Tom and her daughter, Janine, two grandsons Ryan and Jacob, her brother Cudahy, many aunts, uncles and cousins too numerous to count and mention.
Joy was a loving, caring, giving person with many friends, especially the community at Holy Family Church on Pearl Ave. in San Jose. She volunteered for the Cancer Society and St. Francis of Assisi Animal Rescue in San Martin for many years. She spent over 25 years heavily involved in Animal Rescue and placed hundreds of kittens and cats in good homes all over the area.
With the exception of her early years in Hollister and Los Gatos, San Jose has been her home, living at her current address for the past 52 years. She will be missed by neighbors and friends that she has loved.
A visitation will be held Weds. 5/18 from 4pm-8pm at Darling-Fischer Chapel of the Hills and a funeral mass will be Thurs. 5/19 at 6pm at Holy Family Parish. Burial will take place on Fri. 5/20 at Los Gatos Memorial Park.

Joy was my mom's best friend since the 1960's. She was such a good person whose zest for life was contagious. Her and Tom were like family my entire life. The world is a little less wonderful without her.

In April 1998 I had the good fortune to visit the Baker home to adopt a kitten, which I did. The "Kitten and Cat Room" was a Disneyland to the many cats and kittens fortunate to be rescued by Joy Baker and her husband Tom. I adopted my beautiful kitten that I first met when she was just 5 weeks old at the Baker home. Joy allowed my sister and me to visit with this kitten and the other cats and kittens until she was old enough for Joy to bring her to my home. This was a strict rule of Joy's as she had to see where every kitten she was placing would ultimately live. She also gave me quite the shopping list and she would be checking to ensure I had followed through with the purchases! LOL! Today, my beautiful 18 year old cat passed away. (She was actually 18 years, 8 months and 5 days old.) I wanted to contact Joy today to tell her about the life I shared with my precious May-Ling. I was saddened to read tonight that Joy passed away recently. Tom, if you read this, please know how happy May-Ling was with me and how I adored her. And also know how fortunate every cat you and Joy rescued truly was and how fortunate those of us who adopted them were also so fortunate. Thank you for the HUGE contribution you and Joy have made to the feline world! I will miss my May-Ling every day of my remaining life and I wanted you to know about the long life she and I shared. God Bless You!

Joy was a dear friend of mine for over 30 years. I love her with all my heart, and will miss her deeply. She was always there for me, and I will never forget her love and support.
She led an incredible life. She was so loving and kind to everyone she knew. She saved thousands of animal's lives and placed them in beautiful, forever, loving homes.
The world has lost a beautiful light. I love you Joy. Until we meet again.
