Kristan Swanson Obituary

Kristan Swanson Durkee

Resident of Belmont, CA

Kristan was the beloved wife of Robert Durkee. Her parents are Marilyn George Swanson and the late Kenneth John Swanson.

This angel from heaven was born along with her twin brother, Scott Swanson, on May 13, 1958. Her birthplace is Lake Forest, Illinois. She left us on Oct. 28, 2010. Surviving brothers are Scott Swanson (Jodi) (Justin, Tyler), Gary (Sherry) (Ryan, Christopher, and Daniel), Kenneth Swanson, William Swanson (Jodi) (Jordon, Spencer, and Ava). Surviving sisters are Sheri Koontz (Jillian, Austin, Elliot) and Nancy Goins (Greg) (Christi, Gregory and Nicholas). Kristan leaves behind as well a former roommate and special friend, Janet Hillhouse.

In the fifty-two short years of her life, Kristan touched countless people with her warmth, her loving outreach and her innate ability to make all those with whom she came into contact feel loved, important and needed.

Kristan worked many years in fashion merchandising and office management. In her teen years and early twenties, she did some fashion modeling while living in South Florida, where she spent her formative years. She graduated from Marathon High School (Florida Keys) in 1976. During the 80s, Kristan lived three years in Houston, Texas, three years again back in the Florida Keys, and in 1989, she relocated to the San Francisco Peninsula, settling for the most part in Belmont. She married Robert Durkee on October 3, 1998.

Kristan was a devoted Roman Catholic and she had a special relationship with the Heavenly Father who gave humankind this breath of sweetness to spread goodness and hope to all who knew her. To know Kristan was to love her and she will be missed by all who were blessed to know her. Kristan now rests in the bosom of the Lord where she will be at peace for all eternity.

There will be a Visitation from 5 to 8 pm with a Vigil Service at 7 pm, Friday, Nov. 5 at Crippen & Flynn Carlmont Chapel, 1111 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont, CA. A Funeral Mass will be offered on her behalf on Saturday, Nov. 6, 1 pm. at St. Mark's Church, 325 Marine View Ave. in Belmont. Interment will follow at St John's Cemetery in San Mateo. There will also be a reception in the parish social hall for all in attendance who wish to celebrate the life of Kristan Carol Regina Swanson (Durkee).

Strange as it may be..I met Kristan, back in 86', when I was living in Miami. I met her when I was working as a Advertising representative for South Florida Business Journal, and she was working for..I want to say...Hawks Cay. She was incredibly sweet, and left a lasting impression on me. God Bless.

Kristan was a bright, and shining star. She was beautiful in form, and in her nature. She also knew how to laugh, and have a good time.
She was a very unique person, and did all she could to bring something special to all who she met.
If one was lucky enough to know her, she left a mark on you, and it came from a very good place.
A very good friend, that is for sure.

Kristan was my roommate for a while and I can say for a fact that she was one of the most kindhearted people I have ever met. She put a high priority on the well being of others, whether it was trying to cheer me up when I'd had a bad day, or visiting people who were sick, or speaking up on behalf of others. She was also very patient and had a great sense of humor. Her family's loss is also the world's loss. My condolences to them, but I have no doubt that Kristan has earned a fine place in Heaven.
As the saying goes, "It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness."
