Louis Pugliese Obituary

PUGLIESE, Louis A. -- Entered into rest Los Gatos, CA, September 13, 2003. Born in a small town in southern Italy named Marina di Gioiosa, in the province of Calabria, Louis Pugliese immigrated to America with his parents and his older sister and brother in 1952. The family settled on North Hill in Akron, Ohio where Lou spent his childhood and young adulthood. He graduated with honors from the University of Akron with a degree in accounting and earned his CPA designation shortly thereafter. He joined the firm of Ernst Young and spent his entire career with the company. He was in the midst of a highly successful career that took him and his wife and daughters from Akron to Buffalo, NY to Rochester, NY to Syracuse, NY to Miami, FL and finally to Los Gatos, CA where he died unexpectedly on Saturday, September 13. Lou was bigger than life to everyone that knew him. There was something magical about him that drew others to him wherever he lived. To his family he was a treasure. He was devoted to his wife of 26 years, Athena and to his two daughters, Stephania 20 and Eliana 17. He loved them so much. They were his source of joy and he was their hero. To his parents and his three brothers and two sisters he was fiercely loyal and always loving and generous. He was also a wonderful uncle and friend to all of his many nieces and nephews. His untimely death leaves a void never to be filled and heavy hearts that will miss him forever. In addition to his wife, Athena and daughters, Stephania and Eliana of Los Gatos, CA, Lou leaves behind to mourn his loss his mother, Rosina, his mother-in-law, Moskula Chamas, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandy and Fred Ziegler, Lisa and Mike Sullivan, brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Amy Pugliese, Joe and Mary Jo Pugliese, Jim and Kalle Pugliese, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Marko and Jeanne Chamas all of Ohio. He also leaves behind eight nephews and nine nieces. Lou was preceded in death by his father, Salvatore, and his father-in-law, Stephen Chamas. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2003 from 6-9 p.m. with a 7:00p.m. Trisagion service at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 1260 Davis Street, San Jose, CA. For those who wish donations may be made to the Dr. Anthony Retikas Scholarship Fund in care of The Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 129 S. Union St., Akron, Ohio 44304.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved husband. What a wonderful husband and father he must have been. I can still remember you talking of him when we worked at the "hill": you would stop by to chat. Seems like only yesterday. God bless you--remember the good times you and the girls shared with him. You are in my prayers.

Dear Family,

I am saddened to hear of Lou's transition. The other day I was viewing pictures from North High and came across one of the Homecoming Court. Lou was Homecoming King. One of the best-looking and smartest guys in our class obviously made a mark for him self in this world. He will not be forgotten.

Although I only knew him for a brief time during high school, he was one that I always remembered. My deepest sympathy and prayers are with you.

Warmest regards,

Claudia J. Coleman

Dear Anita and Mrs. Charnas and family,

You have all been in my prayers. Your pain at the great loss of these men must be overwhelming.

Anita, I have a wonderful picture of your father helping my Dad build our stable back in the days we hung out and road the bus together. He was a kind and gentle man. I am sure your husband was the same.

May the God of all hope and strength give you and your family all that you need during this dark time.

love,

Claudia (Byers) Souders

Our dearest Athena, Stephania, Eliana, as well as the Pugliese and Charnas family - the very sudden death of Lou (as well as the recent death of Pappou Charnas and Grandpa Pugliese) leaves us all speechless and with heavy hearts. The distance makes it so much more difficult since we can't be there to help out in this difficult time. Please know that you have our continued prayers as you move forward - we are here for you always. May their memory be eternal.

Joe,

Sorry to hear about Lou. It's now 30 years since I first met Lou at the Lone Star Fraternity and I can still remember the smile and laughter that he carried with him. I know by the way he treated other people that he is in good hands at this time.

Yours in XD,

Dearest Athena, Stephania and Eliana,

How terrible it was to hear of Lou's untimely death. You are in my prayers. Lou was one of the finest men I ever knew and it was so very apparent just how he loved and cared for his three girls. I hope, in time, his wonderful legacies and memories will provide some comfort for you in the big void left by him. Much love to you, and I hope you can feel God's loving arms encircling you as He has encircled Lou, welcoming him into Heaven.

My deepest sympathy to you and your family in this time of sadness. I worked with Lou at Ernst & Ernst in Akron on a number of audits. No one was as hard-working and professional as Lou and with a great sense of humor. He was one of the good guys and we all will miss him.

Athena, my heart is filled with sorrow for you and your family. For you, it has been the loss of the two men you have loved above all others--your father and now your husband. I am so sorry. It's been many years since we have had contact, but I have never forgotten you. I remember you so very fondly. You made our time at the U of A so much fun! You were so bubbly and full of life, had a great sense of humor, and you were absolutely beautiful--inside and out! I remember the months when you and Lou were planning your wedding! Please remember you have lovingly touched my life; and even if I am are not there, I am thinking of you and sharing your pain and sorrow.
