Michael Mello Obituary

Michael (Mike) Manuel Mello May 14, 1918 – June 2, 2008 He was a loving husband, father and grandfather peacefully passing away in his sleep during the afternoon of June 2, 2008. He is survived by his son Douglas; daughter-in-law Betty, his cherished grandchildren, Joseph (Tricia), Angelina and Anthony, and baby sister Veronica Nevis. Proceeded in death by his wife (Sara) of 50 years, mother and father (Mary and Manuel Mello) brother Alfred, sisters Mary Dee, Zulmeda Silva, and Vivian Williams. Mike was a lifetime member, past vice-president and board member of Local 153 A.F. of M. Many people will remember my Dad as the saxophonist playing at such dining clubs as the Club Lanai, the Hawaiian Gardens and the Villa Falice to mention a few. Dad was also a very accomplished furniture maker, working for several cabinet shops. Dad also worked for the Santa Clara Unified School district retiring in 1980. A veteran of World War II, Dad served with the Seventh Infantry in many island combats that took place in the South Pacific. Dad will be remembered as a man who lived a full and healthy life, always enjoying it to the fullest. A vigil will be held Sunday 6/8/08 at 7PM (visitation 5-9) at Lima Family Santa Clara, 466 N. Winchester Blvd and a funeral service Monday 6/9/08 at 11AM at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery (St. Clare Chapel). In lieu of flowers family request donations in Mike's name to your favorite charity.
