Michael Tsan Ty, 28, was driving along downtown's Boylston Street, where an Emerson College campus center was nearing completion. The scaffolding was being dismantled when it fell, Boston fire officials said.

I knew Mike at Menlo School, and recognized how unique and special he was. It is truly a loss, not just for those of us who knew him, but for society at large, who would have/did benefit so much from his remarkable contributions.

I read the newspaper today and found out about the tragic Loss of Michael. I was blessed to meet him in highschool & always wanted to reunite and see each other again one day. First, our condolences to you as well as Mr. and Mrs. Ty and John and Debi. I never got the opportunity to meet Michael but through your grandmother we were told of the great accomplishments you were both experiencing. It was the story book we all dream of and you guys had it. It is not lost now but changed. The story book just adds chapters now. I worked with Michael last summer during my elective at the BIDMC where he was an intern. As a medical student, I was quickly impressed by his intelligence, his knowledge in medicine and arts in general and mostly by his modesty and great heart. He was not only supportive and helpful during the rotation, but also during my application to a residency program. He was extremely kind and served as a great role model. Robin, Bonnie and Monica, Michael's loved ones, my thoughts and my heart are with you. I'll always remember Michael as the very special person he was. I am deeply touched and honored to have worked with Michael and Robin for that amazing six months when a scruffy group of actors came together and made magic happen for Fiat Productions. Michael gave us much goodness and beauty in his short lifetime! His death leaves a very big void in the lives of all who knew him, but his wonderful talents, accomplishments and sensibilities do live on joyously in our hearts.

I've heard it said that a life is not measured by the quantity of years, but by the quality of those years. It is clear that Michael put a lot of quality into his few years on this earth. Robin, you have a lot of people who care for you and are holding you in prayer through this dark time. Be assured that they were sent by God to sustain you. May you find peace and a new "normal" in your life. No, things will never be the same, but they will be okay at some point. I bet Michael would have wanted it that way for you.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of this incredible loss. I was privileged to be one of Michael's first "residents"--someone who had the opportunity to help him start to learn how to apply his medical skills "on the wards." I remember him clearly--his enthusiasm for the new challenge in front of him, his quick capable mind and his capacity to absorb new information, his compassion and empathy for his patients, his big plans for his future, and his easy smile. In reading about him now I realize how much he had given to the world already when I met him and how much he gave since, and I can't believe that he is lost to the world now. My heart goes out to his family. We will miss him with you.

Dear Robin,
May our Lady of Sorrows console you in this time of mourning. I only met Michael once or twice here in Rome, but it was a meeting which allowed me to see what a good man he was. We were shocked by the news of his death. All of our American students have now left Rome for Easter vacation. I am sure they would have asked me to extend their condolences as well. Yesterday, before they left, at frater Damien's request, I offered the holy sacrifice of the Mass for Michael.
May Michael spend this Easter gazing upon the face of the Risen Lord.

Michael was one of the most genuinely nice, intelligent, and good-natured people I have ever known. We used to meet in the lab some Saturdays to make substrates and one day he brought me sushi, freshly made, as a thank-you. I enjoyed working with him and chatting with him about real estate and travel and life. We have lost a truly great man and there is a hole in the world where he should have been. It has been no less than overwhelming to all of us in Boston who know Michael that he is no longer with us. I was a doctor at Beth Israel when I met Michael--within a minute of talking to him, it was obvious that he was extraordinarily talented, his kindness had no bounds, and he had already served the world in countless ways and would be doing great things for medicine and for humanity. He was one of the greatest and most terrific people I've ever known, and inspired everyone around him to do our best in life. His patients were in the best of hands, and he was loved by his patients, his friends, and his colleagues. Especially given his many extraordinary achievements, I am struck by how modest and unassuming he was.
