Raimundo Borges Obituary

Raimundo Simoes Borges
March 12, 1931 - October 18, 2013
Resident of San Jose
Raimundo Borges died peacefully Friday morning, October 18, 2013. He was 82.
A native of Terceira Azores, Portugal - specifically the village of Cabo Da Praia.
He purchased his first home in the city of Santa Clara in 1968 with the help of a friend and later moved to North San Jose, where he lived for thirty six years. Over the years Raymond and his wife Marci also acquired other investment properties in the South Bay including a commercial building near Coleman and Tailor Street where they ran their business until 2002.
Mr. Borges owned and operated Protector Shopping Service, a grocery cart retrieval company that held contracts across the Bay Area for twenty five years. When he retired at age 72 he joined the YMCA on the Alameda and started to swim again, revisiting the joy of something he had always loved doing. He was a devout catholic and enjoyed attending mass every Sunday. He was very independent and at 82 was driving the day before he went into the hospital. Raymond is famous for his weekly runs to the homes of his children (all in their forties and fifties) to drop off care packages which varied from large baskets of fresh fruits to garlic smothered steaks or cod fish casseroles. Always prepared and ready to eat. Anyone that knew him could tell you that he was an honorable man. He had an incredible work ethic. A great sense of humor, and a kind heart. His passion and generosity left an everlasting impression. Raymond came to this great country in December of 1967 with dreams of a better life, and showed his children and grandchildren that anything was possible if you had the determination to succeed.
Raimundo is preceded in death by his wife of forty nine years Marcionila Borges (2005). His daughter Lina Borges (1984). His brother Padre Jose Simoes Borges (2013). His sister Maria Da Conceicao Borges- Sousa (2008). His father Jose Simoes and his Mother Francisca Augusta Borges. He is survived by his three children, Maria Borges, Ray Borges and Diana Borges Severino. His wonderful daughter in-law Rosalia, and five grandchildren; Krystle, April, Christopher, Catarina and Marina.
Please join us to celebrate his life. A rosary service will take place on Wednesday, October 23rd at 7:00PM. Viewing from 5 PM to 9 PM. Lima Family Mortuary 466 North Winchester Blvd., Santa Clara 95050 - 408-296-2977.
On Thursday, October 24th mass will be held at 11:00 Am followed by the burial. St Clare's Church 941 Lexington Street, Santa Clara - 408-248 7786.

I loved your Dad. He has been my landlord for over 10 years and each time he'd come to our duplex, he'd make me smile. He's a good man; a loving man. I will surely miss him.
