Richard Ahern Obituary

Richard F. Ahern Nov. 27, 1930 - Dec. 8, 2012 Resident of Cupertino Richard Ahern passed away, at home, on the evening of December 8, 2012. Husband of Jean Ahern for 48 years. Also survived by his brother, David Ahern of Medfield, Mass., & several cousins. His family would like to thank his Caregivers at Grant Cuesta SubAcute & Rehab, Hospice of the Valley and Sepa, his Caregiver at home. Born in Brookline, Mass, November 27, 1930 to David & Sara Ahern. Attended Wellesley High where he played ice hockey and was on the Bay State All Star Ice Hockey Team. Upon graduation he served in the Army, stationed in Germany as a crew chief doing reconnaissance and patrolling repairs. Co-owner of the 'Town Tavern' in Milpitas and the 'Old World Vintner' Deli in Los Altos, retired in 1992. Golfing was his passion. He made a hole in one at the Moffett Field Golf Club in Feb. 2006. He was an avid fan of the SF Giants & 49ers, Boston Red Sox & Bruins and the SJ Sharks. He loved all animals and was a supporter of numerous animal welfare organizations. His favorite times were walking on the beach and enjoying his Pismo Beach vacation home. He was an outgoing, sociable fellow who loved to laugh. Everyone he met was considered a friend. Private services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: SF Zoo, 1 Zoo Rd., SF, CA 94132-1098; Primarily Primates, PO Box 207, San Antonio, TX 78291 or any animal welfare organization of your choice.
