Resident of Sunnyvale
Bob Cullenbine (nickname Cully) passed peacefully at home in Sunnyvale at the age of 80. Bob leaves to cherish his memory and continue the storytelling: daughter Jennifer (Dan) Pietrasik of Milpitas, grandchildren Connor, and Kinsey, daughter Donji (George McDonald) Cullenbine of San Jose, grandchildren Alex and Jesslynn and son Che (Barbara) Cullenbine, grandchildren Roarke and Boston. He is also survived by his life partner of 27 years, Carole Ryan and her daughter Shannon (Marcelo Pando) Ryan, grandchildren Sofia, Sebastian and Gabriel, and her son Sean (Yana) Ryan and her granddaughter Aurora.
He was born in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated from John Burroughs High School in Ladue, Missouri. He attended Yale University, Washington University in St. Louis, and graduated from Stanford University with a BA in Economics. He was an Army veteran, Merry Prankster, anti-war activist, president of the Mid-Peninsula University, a founding member of the Stanford Women's Basketball Fast Break Club, and 2002 Democratic candidate California Gubernatorial Recall Election. (He wore a clown costume with a red nose on the Jay Leno show, one of the hundreds of wild/fun/humorous/out of the box activities in his unusually full life.)
Cullenbine was very active in the 2008 Presidential campaign and volunteered as a Deputy Field Organizer for Obama. He was a past board member of the Association of fundraising professionals and a 28-year volunteer for the Family Giving Tree where he became the CFO/Development Director until his retirement in 2011. He loved to travel and he had been honored for his nature and animal photography. He devoted his life to being a good, caring & kind person.
Bob has been an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1984 and gratefully acknowledged that AA" "gave me back my life and it has been a life worth living".

I should really have liked to get to know Bob better. He came to our book club meetings prepared, enthusiastic, and full of color. You will be missed Bob!

When a new generation of leaders came into the Midpeninsula Free University back in the day, Bob was a graceful and generous mentor. May he rest in peace.
