Born in San Bernardino, Calif. Robert "Bob" Lee Wilson passed away at home in Sunnyvale on October 11, 2021. Survived by his wife Joan of 64 years, daughter Dawne, and sons Mark and Bobby.
Bob served in the U.S. Army in the late-1950's, stationed in Maine at a missile defense site that protected Loring Air Force Base. He worked in the Parks Dept. for the City of El Cerrito, Calif. before taking a position in the City of Sunnyvale Parks Dept. as Superintendent of Parks. He was a graduate of San Jose State University.
Bob even traveled back to Washington, D.C., many years ago to accept an award for exemplary city parks, on behalf of the City of Sunnyvale, presented to him by the Secretary of Interior Walter Hickel. Toward the later span of his career, Bob was involved in the building of the Public Safety Bldg.
Bob was always available to share his knowledge and help others. Gifted in horticulture, with a vast expertise in everything from pruning to irrigation, Bob loved working in his yard and in later life was accompanied by his beloved dog K.C.
Bob, with his hearty sense of humor and booming laugh, enjoyed family get-togethers, events, occasions, and holidays. Some in his family called him Pops, but they all called him their rock. Bob will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for his caring nature.
