Russell Theodore Wolfram

Resident of Los Altos

Oct. 10, 1926-Sept.16, 2010

Russell passed away at the age of 83 after battling pneumonia.

Russell was born in Windsor, Wisconsin, and moved with his family to Willow Glen, CA in 1926. He graduated from Campbell High School in 1943, and received a Bachelor's degree from San Jose State University, after serving in the U.S. Navy. He moved to Los Altos in 1956, where he resided until his death. He had a fond love of steam trains and was a member of the Santa Clara County Pioneers. He was a master violinist, playing for the San Jose Symphony at age 16 and was concertmaster of the Nova Vista Symphony for several years.

Russell was employed by Philco, where he was involved with early warning systems for USAF radar sites, and by SRI International in Menlo Park where he worked as a Research Engineer for over 35 years. His work there included design of Space Shuttle hardware.

Russell is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Janette, his children Elizabeth Hambright of Vacaville, John Wolfram of San Jose and Margaret Smart of Gilroy, as well as 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Ted Wolfram of Susanville, pre-deceased by brothers Douglas and Gerald.

Memorial service will be Sunday, October 10, at 2pm Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1100 Shasta Ave, San Jose. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charitable organization of your choice. Westminster Presbyterian Church (408) 294-7447.
