I am saddened by this news but also comforted that you are no longer suffering. You have been a mentor to me in the brief time we worked together. Your passion for your trade was contagious and I had always admired you putting patients above all else when you would speak in front of large audiences. Though you were very busy, you always took time to meet with me. Your book that you signed for me sits at my desk as a reminder of your knowledge that you shared with so many people in the nephrology community. I have missed working with you but you have left your legacy with all the nurses who have been fortunate enough to hear you speak and learn from you. You will be missed, Steve.

So sorry to hear of your passing Dr. Steve, I wrote about 25 Guest family members looking for some ancestors from 200 years ago and Dr. Steve was about the only one that wrote me back. He was unbelievable helpful and helped me prove my "Guess" line and his "Guest" line were the same splitting at William Guest jr, 1762-1841. Many future genealogists will be forever in your debt Dr. Steve,
Thank you very much and glad I got to make contact with you,

I was honored to author an abstract with Dr. Guest. I am a marketer and he helped me turn my curiosity about use of mid-day exchanges into a data analysis project, a scientific abstract and ultimately a strategic marketing message. He was truly a scientist and teacher. He will be missed! -Bethany Costello

Dr. Steven Guest has passed away serving as the Executive Vice President of USA 503 (c) (3) nonprofit Sonar Bangla Foundation (SBF) that is engaged in establishing nonprofit dialysis centers around the world starting with Bangladesh. I met him in 2005 when he was the nephrologist of Dr Imdad Khan at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Santa Clara, California. Dr Khan, an ex NASA physicist, was a philanthropist based in Bay Area. In 2004 we received a donation from Dr Khan to build a dialysis center in Bangladesh's northern divisional City called Rajshahi. Being an electrical Engineer I had little knowledge about dialysis then. In my first approach to Dr Guest I came to know that he was in Bangladesh serving Cholera Patients back in 1979. My acquittance with him gave me a big hope that I would get him intimately in our journey to create dialysis facility in Bangladesh. There were only few dialysis centers back in Bangladesh in 2004.
He went to Bangladesh in 2010, attended many events as the key note speakers, travelled hundreds of miles with me to visit few dialysis centers we had established by then. We came back with spirit and hope to do more for the kidney failed patients who were underserved. Coming back to USA we organized fundraising in Bay Area, Arizona, Sacramento etc States/Cities and were very successful. His lively and passionate presence in all our fundraising moved all our attendees.
I took him to Bangladesh again in 2014 to inaugurate few more dialysis centers like at divisional cities of Khulna, Chittagong and Barisal. He also attended scholarship award giving ceremony as a special guest. His presence helped youngsters to be motivated.
Coming back to USA we organized few out-of-state (away from Bay Area, CA) fundraising, such as in Houston, DC, Columbus, AZ, and Toronto. Dr Guest never took any money from our nonprofit, in face, he donated in every fundraising.
Today in 2023, SBF has emerged as the largest provider of hemodialysis in Bangladesh, serving more than 76,000 dialysis in its 22 dialysis centers across Bangladesh. Dr. Guest's love and Contribution for Bangladeshi Kidney Patients will be remembered for years to come by Bangladesh people through his favorite organization SBF.
Dr Guest, you will be missed. May God rest your soul in peace.

I am so sorry, Steve, that you could not have your retirement last for more years. I enjoyed being your assistant at SCVMC as well as being part of your circle of friends there and attending the dinners you arranged for us. The teaching skills you displayed to the medical students at Stanford are legendary and made us proud. Steve was the best of humans. Always had a smile. Had a passion for PD that was infectious. His legacy will live on in the numerous Nephrologists who had the privilege of sitting in his lectures and the trainees who will continue to read his books and articles. "Thank You" Dr. Guest for taking care of my dear mom while she was at Kaiser in Santa Clara. Your education and extensive experience in immediately identifying and treating her sudden onset of kidney failure gave my mom an extra 14 more years of life until she passed in 2021. She always appreciated and remembered you with such kind thoughts and praise for taking care of her. May your spirit rest in the hands of the great physician, Our Lord, and bring you peace and comfort with family and friends eternally.
