William Larson Obituary

Untitled

William R. Larson, Sr.

Once penned a slogan that said, "Share a little pizza with someone you love." Not only did he share his pizza with the world; he shared his love with all who knew him.Bill, born January 30, 1933, was raised in the Palo Alto area and attended local schools. He enlisted in the Navy and was sent to Japan at the age of 17. One of his greatest accomplishments was climbing Mt. Fuji. Upon his return from military service, Bill worked several different jobs, gaining experience that ultimately led him to create the first Round Table Pizza Restaurant, which opened its doors in Menlo Park in 1959. Bill's drive coupled with his creative business savvy was instrumental in the success of Round Table Pizza, one of the west coast's most successful pizza franchise companies. After his retirement, Bill turned his creative genius towards the family retreat in the redwoods near Portola State Park. There he created whimsical gardens and loving tributes to his parents Doris and Henry. Bill especially loved the family gatherings at the cabins where he spent time with his many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.Bill passed away on November 15, 2006. In his typical fashion, Bill held a family BBQ a few weeks before his death. He had a great passion for life which he instilled in all who were fortunate enough to know him. To his family, Bill was generous and loving, strong-willed and exuberant, affectionate and gregarious.Bill leaves behind his mother Doris, his children Ricki, Debbie, Bill Jr., Kathi, Janis, Linda, Bob, Brett, and Nicole, his 25 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many dearly loved friends. His father Henry predeceased him.Family and close personal friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Roller Hapgood & Tinney, 980 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Lucille Packard Children's Hospital, 725 Welch Road, Palo Alto, CA 93404.
