Dear Taz,
I was greatly saddened to hear of Yo's death. I so remember her bright spirit at the Cambridge Salon. She and her husband were always cheerful and welcoming. Please know I am thinking about you, and all those who loved Yo, especially Joyce and Miyoko.
With warm regards to you,
Sally Herrick

I was just informed via email by a dear friend of Yo's passing. Over the years I have thought of Yo many times. I visited her one afternoon when I was in town several years ago. I wish I had taken time to visit her more often prior to my leaving the state. She taught me to cook rice, make fried rice, tempura amongst many other dishes as well as the best carrot cake ever. She treated me like the daughter she never had and loved us all with wisdom, compassion and with all her heart. She was non-judgmental, she was calm, nurturing and selfless. She never showed her own pain even though she endured many sorrows. I can't find the words to express the loss I am feeling now. I loved Steve as a high school sweetheart, Fred as the father I had never known and Yo as my second mother. Like a child I am feeling the same about Yo's passing as I did when my own mother passed a few years ago - you always believe in your heart that "Mom" will always be there. I feel now as I did when my own mother passed, in that a part of my life passes with her and I am no longer anyone's little girl! I can only hope I am as good a wife and mother, as good a friend and as wise a woman as Yo. I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to her family and friends. We have all lost with her passing but have been enriched by her touching our lives.
