Betty Thayer Obituary
Betty Jane Thayer, age 93, a lifelong resident of Virginia, died Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Waterview Pines in Virginia, Minn.
She was born May 4, 1932, in Virginia, the daughter of Carl and Edna (Locken) Anderson. Betty was a 1950 graduate of Virginia High School. She married the love of her life Elton Thayer on July 2, 1955.
Betty worked as an X-ray technician before staying home to care for her 5 children and also worked at their family business, Mesabi Wood Specialties.
Betty loved having family gatherings. Betty and Elton spent summers at the family cabin on Lake Vermilion and eventually winters in Texas. Betty was an exceptional person, unselfish and caring, and never complained. Betty especially enjoyed getting together with her 'sewing club,' a group of friends from high school.
Betty is survived by her children: Shelley (John) Kuitunen of Hutter, Michael (Debra) Thayer of Mountain Iron, Robert (Catherine) Thayer of Eden Prairie, Jon (Lynette) Thayer of Champlin and Jim Thayer of Virginia; grandchildren: Anders Haugen, Alex (Hunter) Haugen, Bonnie (Nick) Norlander, Jacob (Erin) Thayer, Daniel (Sarah) Thayer, Cate (Matt) Mendenhall, Sean (Trina) Thayer, Amanda (Evan) Eull and Luke Thayer; sister-in-law Thelma Robinson, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elton, sister Beverly (Walter) Culbert and brother Robert (Emmy) Anderson.
No services are planned. There will be a private interment at a later date.
Arrangements are with the Landmark Funeral Home in Virginia.
