Caroline K. Paine

A family graveside service for Caroline K. Paine, 86, of Makinen, was held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2025, at Rauha Cemetery in Palo.

Caroline died Monday, October 13, 2025, at Carefree Living in Aurora, Minn.

She was born February 13, 1939, in Strathcona, Minn., to William and Marcella (Vanous) Puttbrese. Caroline was a graduate of Bemidji High School and later married Charley Paine on August 21, 1958, in Glasgow, Mont. Caroline worked for the US Forestry Department in civil service in Eveleth, Aurora and later in Duluth. She retired with nearly 30 years of service.

She was a homemaker who especially enjoyed quilting and fishing. She was known to have made several quilts for veterans in veteran homes over the years. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and canning.

Survivors include her husband, Charley; children: Carol (Paul) Karolevitz of Lecanto, FL, Terry (Tami) Paine of Devils Lake, ND and Jerry (Donna) Paine of Grand Marais; grandchildren: Brandon, Teri Jo and Tanner; step grandchildren: Adrianna and Ashley; several great grandchildren; siblings: Rudy Puttbrese, Gin Johnson and Kay Lee; several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marcella and nine siblings.
