Frank Junior Fredlund 'Coach'
December 22, 1932-November 8, 2023.
Frank was born to Frank and Clara (Jary) Fredlund in Bear River, Minn. He graduated from Alango High School in 1950. He attended Hibbing Community College for two years, served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55, and then earned his master's degree from St. Cloud State.
Frank married Janet Anderson on October 26, 1957. They were married for 60 years until her death in 2018.
Frank taught and coached at Chokio-Alberta for eight years before moving to St. Peter in 1968. He taught health and driver's training and coached football and basketball. He was chosen the 1980 St. Peter School District Teacher of the Year. He was head football coach from 1977-1996, leading the Saints football team to state several times, and winning the state championship in 1981. Frank was inducted into the Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1998. He retired from teaching in 1993.
Frank and Jan liked to travel, making three trips to Europe. They bought a motor home and toured the U.S. on skiing trips, camping, and visiting friends and relatives. Frank loved to garden and looked forward to meeting friends for coffee and dice shaking.
Frank is survived by his sister, Fran Scofield of Cook, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews; and lots of friends, football players, and students.
Frank was preceded in death by Jan; parents; brothers, Russell, Vivian, and Myron Fredlund; and sisters, Joyce Anderson, Colleen Joki, and Cosma Hemphill.
A Celebration of Life will be at 1:00p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at the Bear River Community Center. Memorials are preferred to the St. Peter High School (boys and girls) Athletic Department.
