Gladys Jean Niemi

Gladys Jean Niemi, 89, of Aurora, died Saturday, February 14, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.

Gladys was born on October 31, 1936, to Hayno and Elsie (Finnila) Ranta in Markham. She graduated from the Aurora High School, Class of 1954. Gladys worked as the secretary to the Aurora High School Superintendent, Bear Creek Mining Co and as a secretary to attorneys Fred Cina and John Holland. She was united in marriage to Marvin Niemi on June 8, 1957. Gladys was a member of the Palo Congregational Church. Gladys enjoyed flower gardening and being outdoors. She took the greatest pleasure in being a grandma and great-grandma and supporting them in their sports and school activities.

Survivors include her son, Clark (Lisa) Niemi of Eveleth; grandsons: Kyle (Carly) Niemi of Florida, Daniel (Alyssa) Niemi of Mt. Iron and Dylan Niemi of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren: Ella, Lucy, Indi, Leo, Taylor and Carter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; brother, Raymond Ranta; and her parents.

The family of Gladys would like to sincerely thank the staff at Essentia Health-Virginia and Moments Hospice for the loving care and kindness they showed her. We are so grateful for the comfort and support you gave our family during this time.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Palo Congregational Church with Pastor Belle Westman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Rauha Cemetery in Palo.

Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora.
