Richard 'Dick' Edward Lorenz
Richard "Dick" Edward Lorenz of Cloverdale, Minn., passed away peacefully in his home at age 87 on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
He was surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born on March 8, 1938, in Grand Rapids, Minn., to Mary (Maurin) and Harold Lorenz. He attended Greenway schools and graduated in 1956, where he was a star wrestler and football player, and likened to the looks of Elvis. He was in the National Guard for 8 years, where he trained as a medic. He married his sweetheart, Helen LaBar, on June 30", 1962. Together, they built their family home on the same property where he was raised in Cloverdale. They raised 7 children and welcomed 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Richard retired from Hibbing Taconite, where he was a welding foreman and mentor to many. He continued to offer his knowledge as a consultant for the mines for several years after retirement. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He was a man of unparalleled integrity, wisdom, and humor. He cherished his family and exemplified the encouraging phrase he often shared: "When the going gets tough, the Lorenz's get going."
