Michael Lowe Obituary

Montour - March 7, 1949 - September 14, 2025

Mike was born in Palo Alto, CA to Richard and Patricia Lowe. When Mike was 10 years old his family moved to South Lake Tahoe, CA where he continued his education and graduated from South Tahoe High School in 1967. He then continued his studies at Sierra Junior College in Rocklin, CA but decided to enlist in the United States Air Force as the Vietnam War was intensifying. His military experience began in basic training in Lackland AFB, Texas and continued to Beale AFB, CA. He had several military tours to Okinawa, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, etc., where he worked on aircraft reconnaissance missions. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sargent.

Mike then began his career with Contel Telephone Company in Tahoe, then Gardnerville, Nevada. He lived there for a few years and then an opportunity opened up in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho and he transferred and began a new career working for the local residents, including towns of Garden Valley, Banks and Sweet among others. He was a Service Technician who provided services both indoors and outdoors. If one of his customers encountered trouble, he made himself available by providing his personal home number and would help restore service.

Mike then married his first wife Faye, and they moved to Montour and welcomed their son, Michael Richard Lowe. The family worked on their property and grew alfalfa, raised their own beef, planted vegetables and assisted the local ranchers when they needed extra help.

Soon afterwards, Mike and his father purchased 5 acres of land near the 4 corners site and built the Montour Country Store. Customers who needed something quick could stop by and be greeted with a friendly smile, a story or a joke when Mike worked at the store. His father always had a new joke for Mike when they talked. After a while, due to economic struggles, the store was closed and Mike continued to focus on his career with the telephone company.

In June 2003 Mike married Linda Muston at a wedding ceremony at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mike and Linda grew up and went to school together and re-connected via their alumni website. Mike and Linda established their home in Montour and re-opened the country store as the local community was expanding.

After years of working for the telephone company, Mike had been diagnosed with "Bladder Cancer" in March 2007 and after a year of numerous surgeries to try and remove the tumors, they had to remove his bladder in March of 2008, which started a series of 18-major surgeries within a 10-year period...Not counting the ones that came after...Mike was strong and tuff.

Mike finally decided to retire and enjoy a simpler lifestyle... He enjoyed working in his workshop, watching old television shows such as Gunsmoke and Bonanza along with western movies. He loved the springtime and planted vegetables every year. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and working on his cars, tractors and trucks.

Mike passed away in the early morning hours of September 14, 2025 due to complications from surgery. He entered Heaven's gate and was met by the Lord along with his parents, grandparents, many uncles and aunts.

Mike is survived by his wife, Linda, son Michael, daughter-in-law Alaina, sister JoAnne and numerous cousins.
