Ruby McMahan

Graveside service for Ruby McMahan, 96, of Emmett, Idaho, who died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at a local care center, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the Emmett Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Potter Funeral Chapel Emmett. Ruby was born on Jan. 30, 1917, at Rexburg, Idaho, to J. Ward and Lauretta Eckersell Thomas. She was the fourth of seven children.
Ruby was reared and educated in Rexburg. She married Russell Owen McMahan at Idaho Falls, Idaho, on July 23, 1938. They lived in Idaho Falls for a short time before moving to La Grande, Ore. In 1945 they moved to Emmett where she has since resided. She was employed by the First Security Bank and later at the Emmett Department Store which became Shavers. Ruby later had an income tax preparation business which she operated for many years. She also had a small gift shop. Ruby retired in 1988 at the age of 71.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, playing cards, bingo, traveling and having coffee with her friends. She had been involved with the BPW and Walter Knox Hospital Auxiliary.
Ruby is survived by her two daughters, Barbara (Roland) Bright and Marlene McMahan both of Emmett; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; a sister-in-law, Betty Thomas of Boise, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, four sisters and her son, Richard.
Memorials may be made to the Gem County Senior Center. The family wants to thank Heart' n Home Hospice and Rivers Edge Rehabilitation and Living Center for the excellent care they provided for Ruby.
