David Ray Simmons, 40, of Metropolis, and a former resident of Johnson County, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at the Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.
David was born June 9, 1982, at the former Marion Memorial Hospital. He was the son of Michael Simmons and Kaye (Alsip) Simmons.
On July 12, 2020, David was united in marriage to Danielle Sharp in Metropolis. She survives.
David is also survived by his children, Kylea Jo Rae Simmons and Kamryn Christopher Wiley Simmons; his mother, Kaye (Dennis E.) Harris of Vienna; siblings, Erinn Bowman of Golconda and Miles Simmons of Vienna; many nieces and nephews including, Abby Sue, Kaylea Diane, Christopher, Chyenne, and Cristin; his father-in-law, Larry Sharp of Metropolis; his mother-in-law, JoAnn Lance of Vienna; aunts and uncles, including Nancy and Billy Belford and James and Kim Alsip; as well as other relatives and many dear friends.
David was preceded in death by his father, Michael Simmons; a daughter, Ella Rae Simmons; grandparents, Floyd "Shorty" Simmons, Rebecca Simmons Smith, Clella "Smitty" Smith, Harold Alsip, Linda Rudolph, and Tom and Juanita Harris; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
David attended Vienna High School. He was employed as a carpenter by Bailey Construction Company in Metropolis.
In his spare time, David enjoyed a number of hobbies, including knife throwing, woodcarving, performing magic tricks and telling jokes. David is fondly remembered for his love of music and his artistic talent. He was also an accomplished tattoo artist.
David was of the Christian faith.
A celebration of David's remarkable life will be held at a later date, which will be publicly announced.
