It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Lester. Although words can never fully capture the depth of our loss, we honor his life, and achievements, and the impact he had on everyone who knew him.
Richard Clyde Lester, 83, born on April 8, 1942, in Brookport, Illinois departed this world on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, in Greenwood, Indiana. He was a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, partner and friend, whose kindness, generosity, and warmth touched the lives of many. Rick was known for his unending generosity to family, friends, and community, always lending a helping hand or advice, understanding and wisdom to those in need.
Throughout his life, Rick accomplished much and found joy in poetry, photography (we have very few picks of Rick because he was the photographer, award winning even), music (from trumpet to karaoke), his lifelong love of all animals (including never killing insects and feeding squirrels into obesity always with a dog by his side) and motorcycle rides (from Nova Scotia to Alaska and Florida to Washington State). He built businesses, charities, and a lot of mischief in his lifetime. He inspired others through his compassion, resilience, and honesty, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. "Generous" and "such a good guy" are the words that all who knew him use to describe him. The greatest testament to the life he lived is there was never a child, dog or cat that didn't immediately fall in love with him and he with them.
Rick is survived by his longtime companion, Sheila Kitchens; his children and stepchildren, Keith Lester, Mark Lester (Lavonne Hughes), David Lester, Jennifer Lester Schneider (Michael Schneider), Scott Barker (Lora Simons), Bonnie Barker; 10 grandkids and 18 great-grandkids; as well as countless friends and loved ones. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched.
A celebration of Rick's life will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, at Jessen Funeral Home, 729 US Highway 31, Whiteland, Indiana. All who knew Rick are welcome to attend and share in remembrance. Rick will be laid to rest in Pell Cemetery, Brookport, Illinois, on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025.
May Rick rest in peace, and may those who mourn find comfort in the precious memories shared.
WAITING
Since Adam, I have waited
As countless centuries passed.
To have my time of consciousness
To see flowers, trees and grass.
To know the joy of loving,
As I watch the seasons pass,
Yet, knowing in my heart that life can never last.

I met Rick at karaoke in Greenwood Moose and he was a great friend. Loved to hear him sing and he loved his Gospel music. I with several other friends met every Saturday night at his business and sang karaoke. He was a blessing in my life I have missed him a lot. Karaoke stopped during Covid and never started up again. He also loved to hear my husband Russ play the guitar. He will always be remembered and has a place in my heart. Goodbye dear friend till we meet again
