Barbara H. Burke

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Barbara H. (Berrian) Burke, 90, died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008. She was born in Boston in July 1918 the daughter of the late Clifford H. and Gertrude (Dane) Berrian. Mrs. Burke is survived by her beloved daughter, Barbara L. Newhook and her husband, Ted, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and by several nieces and nephews. She was the wife of Thomas D. Burke, who died in October of 1998 and mother of Kevin E. Burke, who died in 1975. Mrs. Burke spent her formative years in Brighton and resided in Wayland for more than 47 years before moving to West Palm Beach, Fla., to be closer to her daughter. She was a graduate of Boston Girls High School and attended Bryant and Stratton Business College in Boston. She was very active at Saint Anns Church in Wayland and was a former president of St. Anns Guild. She was also a member of the Woodridge Garden Club of Wayland. Barbara was an avid and accomplished golfer and a member of the Framingham Country Club and the Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach. She was also a past-president of the Womens Golf Assoc. at the Framingham Country Club. Barbara was a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend to all who knew her. She and her husband spent many winters in West Palm Beach, prior to his death. Visitations will be held on Friday, Aug. 15, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rte. 30), Wayland. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 9 a.m., followed by her Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m., at St. Anns Church, Rte. 27, Wayland. Interment will follow in the Burke family lot in North Cemetery in Wayland.
