Carol DiMatteo Obituary

Carol (Artz) DiMatteo, of Framingham, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 15, 2012 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Carol not only lived but really celebrated nearly 68 years of life, 39 of which she shared with her husband, George, and all of which she spent as a beloved younger sister to Lois Wysong and Doris Artz. Carol's joys in life were many, and the lives she impacted exponentially more. She was a devoted mother to David, Martha and Elizabeth DiMatteo and enthusiastically celebrated their marriages to Tiffany Puryear, Gregory Lavigne and Joel Avery respectively. She celebrated the births of her grandchildren Joseph Lavigne and Annabel Avery in 2008, the birth of grandson Matthew Lavigne in 2009 and of granddaughter Ilse Avery in 2010. A lifelong educator, Carol taught for more than 20 years in the English Department at Assabet Valley Regional Vocational High School in Marlborough where she was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 1997. An active member of the First United Methodist Church in Framingham for over 30 years, Carol's faith in God was unwavering, and her service to the church and its members constant. Carol will be remembered and missed by so many. There will be no wake or visiting hours at the funeral home, but Carol's family invite all who knew and loved her to a celebration of Carol's life to be held Monday February 20, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 360 Water St., Framingham. The formal service will be immediately followed by a reception celebrating Carol's life, to be held in the church's Fellowship Hall. Instead of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to either the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA. 02284-9165, or to Brigham & Women's Hospital Development Office, 116 Huntington Ave., 5th Floor, Boston, MA. 02116 to benefit the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). Arrangements were made by Boyle Bros. Funeral Home (www.boylebrothers.com).

Dear Uncle George, David, Martha, and Elizabeth,
What a sorrow to hear of the passing of Aunt Carol. Although far apart in miles, she was frequently in my thoughts, especially as she bravely fought her battle these past many months.
I have many fond memories of our younger years, and I will cherish them.
Please know you will continue in my family's thoughts and prayers, and we wish you our sincerest sympathies in these hours of your sorrow.

Martha and Family, I am so sorry for your great loss. Grammy was an inspiration to me in so many ways. I am so blessed to have gotten the chance to spend the past summer with her, talking about Italy, giving me advice and tips on teaching the little ones and even going on walks together. She will definetly be missed but never forgotten.
