Christopher Devlin Obituary

Christopher Charles Devlin, of Littleton and Maidstone, Vermont, died suddenly at home on Sunday, Sept. 6, after a brief illness. He was 64. Chris spent his career in the substance abuse treatment field, launching and running organizations that provided services to those who had been ordered to receive treatment through the court system in Eastern Massachusetts. He retired in 2012 after nearly 40 years in the field. Chris had overcome addiction in his own life and helped countless people on their path to sobriety. Born in Boston on Christmas Day, 1950, Chris was the devoted husband of Elizabeth A. (Maynard) Devlin for 33 years. He was the son of the late George J. Devlin, (b. Lawrence) and the late Patricia S. (Burns) Devlin (b. Natick). A longtime resident of Millis, Chris moved to Littleton with his wife in 2015. Meanwhile, they bought their Vermont dream home where Chris and his family spent many happy weekends over the last several months of his life. Chris spent his early life in Norwood and attended St. Catherine of Siena School in Norwood and St. Sebastian School, formerly of Newton, before moving to Dover. A 1969 graduate of Dover-Sherborn High School, Chris was the starting quarterback for the Dover-Sherborn Raiders for four years. He was named Most Valuable Player for the Tri-Valley League during his senior year when he served as co-captain. Chris went on to attend Berwick Academy in South Berwick, Maine, where he also played football, before earning a bachelors degree in education from Northeastern University. In addition to his wife, Chris is survived by his loving daughters, Emily E. (Devlin) Micucci and her husband David of Framingham, and Maryanna T. Devlin of Nashville, Tenn.; a dear grandson, Benjamin A. Micucci, and an expected grandchild, Baby Micucci, of Framingham. Chris was predeceased by his beloved son, Andrew C. Devlin, in 2001. He is also survived by a sister, Marie Lucking, of Hopkinton; nephews Daniel Lucking of Clinton and his wife Rachel, and James Lucking of Somerville, and a niece, Elizabeth Lucking of Hopkinton, as well as great-nephews Christian and Christopher and a great-niece, Briana. Football was Chriss passion. He was an avid college football fan and throughout the years he coached teams at Dover-Sherborn, Millis High School, and Bellingham High School. Chris moved to Millis with his wife in 1983, where they raised their children. In the 1980s, he served as a member of the Millis School Committee. A devout Catholic, Chris was a long-time communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Millis, where he founded and chaired the Respect Life Committee. Despite facing many challenges in his life, Chris never lost his faith. He especially looked forward to one day being reunited with his son. His family will remember him as their guiding force and an unfailing source of encouragement. A Mass of Christian Burial to which all are invited will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 82 Exchange St., Millis. Interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Millis. Calling hours will be held Friday, Sept. 11 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Miller St., Medfield. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations in Chriss name to the Andrew Devlin Music Memorial Scholarship fund at Middlesex Bank, 36A Milliston Road, Millis, MA 02054.
