Cleo Mahoney Obituary

Cleo Irene (Lynch) Mahoney, on February 20, 2014, passed away peacefully at the Scandinavian Living Center with her son and grandson at her bedside. Born March 1, 1908 she died 9 days short of her 106th birthday. Cleos was a life of faith and charity. She loved her Church, and counted many brothers, friars, priests, monks and at least one cardinal among her personal acquaintances. Cleo had a big heart, and when it came to charity she gave from the depths of it. She died with the same dignity and fearlessness (laced with a healthy dose of humor) with which she lived. She leaves behind her loving late husband Edward J. Mahoney of Boston Massachusetts, her loving son Donald Mahoney of Naples Florida, her loving brothers Francis Lynch of Lynn Massachusetts and the late William J. Lynch of Chelmsford Massachusetts , six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Her many friends in the St. Bernard-Corpus Christi parish and the Scandinavian Living Center and untold numbers of clergy across North America will remember her fondly. Donations can be made to St. Bernards parish of West Newton MA. Funeral from the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St., (Rte. 16), West Newton, Monday, February 24 at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bernard's Church, West Newton at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours Sunday afternoon from 1:00 - 4:00 PM. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury. Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, www.BurkeFamily FuneralHomes.com.

I am so saddened to learn of Cle's passing. I'd been hoping to visit her for so long, and never quite made it. I don't know if she ever knew what an inspiration she was to me, and invariably countless others, and how much I admired and loved her.
My heart, prayers, and love go out to son Donald, all the grandchildren, Mahoney family, dear dear Uncle Fran, the Lynch family, and all those who loved her. Be comforted in how blessed we all were to have known her, and the sweet love that she was.
Deepest sympathy,
Neice Leslie
