Dennis and I had breakfast at Sher-Lin's in Framingham usually every weekday for several years starting around 1975. We became good friends and I recall Dennis telling me casually about one time when he was on a submarine of the coast of Russia when they were forced to stay down so long that he couldn't light a cigarette because there wasn't enough oxogen and were forced to surface. Dennis never told me he was a bit of a celebrity. Last year I saw his picture in the best-selling book and "60 minutes" documentary "Blind Man's Bluff". When he moved to New Hampshire and I moved to Connecticut we were both busy in our new lives and had not talked in about five years, so I called him and when he answered I said Dennis and he immediately said John. He was one of the best. I sure would love to have another breakfast with Dennis.
