Everett Abbott Obituary

Everett L. Abbott, 90, of Wareham, died March 22, 2013 in Tobey Hospital. He was the widower of the late Ruth (Varney) Bronk-Abbott and the son of the late Leon and Ethel (Eagleson) Abbott. He was born in Cambridge and lived in Watertown, Knoxville, TN, Framingham and Centerville before moving to Wareham. Everett was a proud World War II Army Air Corps veteran, participating in D-Day and serving through Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Everett left the University of Tennessee at the onset of WWII to serve his country. He later graduated from Boston Architectural College. He married Gloria Stevens and they raised their five children. For many years he owned and operated his own construction company specializing in custom kitchens. In 1986 he embarked on a new career at Harvard University as Boatman until retiring at age 74. Not one to be idle, Everett then worked as a consultant for Resolute Racing Shells in Bristol, RI. Everett was a member of the Pequossette Lodge, A. F. & A. M. in Watertown. Over the years he was actively involved in the US Power Squadron, the WWII 94th Troop Carrier Reunion Committee, the Centerville Historical Museum, and many other local community organizations. He enjoyed boating, gardening, carpentry and his family. He leaves his son, Leon Abbott and wife Cynthia of Bellingham; 4 daughters, Diane Brooke and husband John of Centerville, Susan Broderick and husband David of Sacramento, CA, Robin Murphy and husband Paul of Wareham and Laura Brown and husband Richard of Framingham; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. Everett also enjoyed close ties to Ruth Bronk-Abbott's children; Hal Bronk and wife Jude Beatrice of Newton; Karen Bronk and husband Peter Driscoll of Turner, Maine; Stephen Bronk and wife Sylvia Klein of Berlin, Germany; Peter Bronk and wife Christine Gittens of California; Paul Bronk and wife Martha Hamel of Lynn, MA; and Tim Bronk and wife Maureen of Albany, New York, and Ruth's 12 grandchildren. His memorial service will be held on Friday, April 11th, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the South Congregational Church, 565 Main St, Centerville, MA. Burial will be Saturday, April 12th at 11:00 a.m. in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham MA 01701 or to the American Cancer Society, 5 Manley St., W. Bridgewater, MA 02379.
