Frank Locke Obituary

SOUTHBOROUGH Frank Ralph Locke Jr., 75, of Southborough, died Monday, June 15, 2009, at his home. He was the husband of Dorothy (Sparrow) Locke for more than 22 years. Ralph was a 1952 graduate of Franklin High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea. After his service in the military, as a self taught mechanic, he owned and operated Route 9 Gulf in Fayville, for a while, and later moved his business to the center of Southborough. He ran Southborough Gulf for more than 14 years before he joined McCarthy Pools of Southborough as a mechanic. Ralph retired after 22 years of service. He was an avid sports fan and was one of the founders of Southborough Mens Softball League in the mid '60s, and he initiated acquiring the lights for the field at Woodward School. Ralph planted a terrific vegetable garden each year, which he shared with friends. In addition to his wife, he leaves his mother Esther (Sheffer) Locke of Franklin; his daughters, Kristine Simone and her husband, Zachary, of Alton Bay, N.H., Tracey Podue, Colorado, Ashley Locke of Southborough; his stepchildren, J.Timothy Lane and his wife, Nicole, of Worcester, Christopher Lane of Machias Port, Maine, Alan Lane of Marlborough, Amy Lane of Upton, Kelley Stark and her husband, Robert, of Worcester; a sister, Marjorie Osgood of Franklin; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. At Ralphs request, funeral and burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be sent in his memory to MetroWest Homecare & Hospice, 85 Lincoln St., Framingham, MA 01702. Arrangements are under the direction of the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough (Morrisfuneralparlor.com).

I only got to know Ralph a little bit in the last few years of his life. I could tell he was a good man and he will be missed. At least he got to see his great granddaughter born.

Having spent years working with Ralph at McCarthy Pools I got to know a side of him that not all got to. Yes he did have a big heart and would bend over backwards to help a man out. He will be missed
