James Exarhopoulos Obituary

James A. Exarhopoulos, 91, of Marlborough died Monday (Sept. 16, 2013) in San Marcos, CA while visiting his son. He was the husband of the late Thespina "Tess" (Hiotis) Exarhopoulos who died in 2002. He leaves his children Alexander J. Exarhopoulos of San Marcos, CA and Mary-Elaine McGinn and her husband Paul of Marlborough. He also leaves six grandchildren: Christopher McGinn and his wife Meaghan of Sudbury, Daniel McGinn of Marlborough, David Exarhopoulos of Hudson, Marc Exarhopoulos of Stow, Neia McGinn of Wayland and Jermaine McGinn of Marlborough and one great granddaughter Alexis McGinn of Northborough. He was the grandfather of the late James A. Exarhopoulos and brother of the late Plato Exaros, John Exarhopoulos and Athena Psileskas. He was born in Marlborough son of the late Alexander and Kaliope (Saitas) Exarhopoulos and was a lifelong resident of Marlborough. He was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade School and also attended Northeastern University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of both WWII and the Korean War. He worked at the Watertown Arsenal for over 30 years and retired as a gauge inspector and had started as a machinist. He was a member and former church council member of SS Anargyroi Creek Orthodox Church in Marlborough. Former President and member of the Marlborough AHEPA and a member of the Marlborough Masons. Former member of both Marlborough Fish and Game Association and the Hudson Elks. Every morning even in San Marcos, he enjoyed doing the crossword puzzle, Sudoku puzzle and the cryptograms in the local newspapers. He loved playing cards, especially cribbage and taking his grandchildren to Hampton Beach and watching all his grandchildren and taking them to all their sporting events. He was a very good handyman and completely restored his home in Marlborough after he was married. Funeral service will be held Monday (Sept. 23, 2O13) at 10 A.M. in SS Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church, corner of Central and Cashman Sts., Marlborough. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Marlborough. Calling hours at the John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., Marlborough are Sunday from 2 to 5 P.M. Those who wish may make memorial donations in his memory to: SS Anargyroi Creek Orthodox Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 381, Marlborough, MA 01752.
