Lauren Dunne Astley, 18, died Monday, July 4, 2011, in Wayland. Lauren was born in Boston, on April 1, 1993, the daughter of Mary K. Dunne of Weston, and Malcolm L. Astley of Wayland. Lauren was a lifelong resident of Wayland and was a graduate of Wayland High School, Class of 2011. She was planning to attend Elon University in North Carolina this fall. Lauren also studied French horn, with Pam Paikin of Wayland, and played in the MetroWest Youth Symphony Orchestra. In addition to her parents, Lauren is survived by her maternal grandmother, Patricia (Dennen) Dunne of East Falmouth. Lauren also leaves many other relatives, including her aunts, Anne Hourihan, wed to Jerry Hourihan of Walpole, and their children, Daniel and Michael; Barbara Paulsen, wed to Bruce Paulsen of New York City, N.Y., and their daughter, Anna; Kathleen Dunne, wed to Bruce Lavarusa of Long Island, N.Y., and her sons, Brian and Matthew DeSantis. I know years have passed since Lauren's death, but please know she will never be forgotten. I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Lauren, but maybe in the next life. Prayers go out to her family and friends. She had so much to live for, but she was too beautiful for this world. May she rest in peace.

My daughter Emily and I were fortunate to have been in the Weston Friendly Society’s production of Annie. We will remember Lauren as a perfect Annie on stage and in person- so sweet, pretty and talented. Even though she was the star, she always had time and kind words for the younger kids who had smaller roles in the show.

We are so sorry for your loss.

Whenever a child is lost, all mothers weep together...This was once said to me by my college roommate about the vision she had upon losing a baby, of being surrounded by many weeping women...I've never forgotten this and I believe it to be true...as I have wept with and about friends', cousins', and colleagues' and yes, strangers' loss of children...We all share your pain...No, we do not pretend our experience is your experience. Of course it is not. Yet, we do know. By virtue of being mothers we are connected in some very organic way, and we do know your pain...and we weep...for you and with you and for your beautiful wonderful daughter.
