Leona Zicko Obituary

Leona (Mitchell) Zicko, 91, died on January 25, 2013 following a period of declining health at the Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center in Apex, North Carolina. She was born in Maynard on July 6, 1921 the daughter of the late James Mitchell and Jennie (Kyritsti) Mitchell. Leona is survived by her d evoted and loving son Michael A. Zicko and his wife Stephanie Lachmann both of Alex, North Carolina. She was the sister of Theodora Christo of Lynn, Virginia Haywood of Topsfield and the late Esther Athanas. Also survived by 6 nieces and 8 nephews. Leona was the beloved wife of the late Andrew G. Zicko who died in December of 1996. Leona spent her formative years in Dorchester and for several years resided in Natick. She has been a resident of Wayland for the past 54 years and recently moved to Apex, North Carolina to be closer to her son. She had been a Bookkeeper for many years with Zaltas, Medoff, Raider and Levoy in Natick before her retirement. Leona was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed candlepin bowling at Fairway in Natick with her friends on a ladies league. She will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends she met during her 91 years. Visitations will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funera l Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30), Wayland. Graveside services will held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Zicko family lot in Dell Park Cemetery in Natick. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial gifts in her memory may be sent to Prevent Blindness America, Northeast Region, 424 Beacon St, Boston, MA 02115 (www.preventblindness.org) would be appreciated. Michael, So sorry to hear about your Mom. She was a special lady and I will always remember our "stretch and sew" days as well as so many other things she and Mary and I did together. My sincere condolences to you and your family.

Michael,
I am truly saddened to hear of your recent loss and would like to express my sincere condolences to you and your family.
Your mom was a wonderful lady who touched our lives. I remember the many telephone conversations and the Friday night cribidge matches with Lee and Andy.
