Paul F. Delaney FRAMINGHAM Paul F. Delaney, 88, died Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe, Mich. He was predeceased in 2006 by his wife of 60 years, Lucy M. (Dauphine) Delaney. He was born in Somerville, the youngest of six children to John and Margaret (OConnor) Delaney. Mr. Delaney was educated at St. Annes in Somerville and entered the U.S. Army during World War II in June, 1942. He served in Calcutta, India, as a master sergeant, supplying the troops for the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign. He met his future wife through their war-time correspondence, and after his discharge, he returned to Massachusetts where he finally met, courted and eventually married Lucy, a lifelong resident of Framingham. She, like all who knew him, was charmed by his beautiful blue eyes, and a smile that could light up a room. Throughout his life, neither failed to win him friends. Following their wedding in 1946, they made their home in Framingham for the rest of their married life. Following her death, he moved to Michigan to be closer to family, but never lost his love for his home state and the Red Sox. Mr. Delaney worked at Anchor Motor Freight in Framingham until his retirement at age 65. He was an active member of St. Stephens Church in Framingham, where he served on the altar at weekday masses and in the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He and his wife enjoyed spending time with his grandson in Michigan and multiple retirement trips to Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales, as well as Alaska, Hawaii and a boat trip along the Rhine. As his and his wifes health failed, they were especially appreciative of their neighbors and friends and their nieces who all provided such great kindnesses. He leaves his daughter, Virginia (Delaney) and son-in-law, T. Burwell Vaden Jr., of Grosse Pointe, Mich., and Richmond, Va.; and his grandson, Shaun P. Black of Chicago, Ill., as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his five brothers and two sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation Monday, Dec. 28, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the Norton Funeral Home, (
www.nortonfuneralhome.com), 53 Beech St. (corner of Union Ave.), Framingham, followed by his funeral Mass at 11 a.m., at St. Stephen's Church, 251 Concord St. (Rte. 126), Framingham. Burial will follow in the family lot in St. Stephen Cemetery, Framingham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Stephens Church, 221 Concord St., Framingham, MA 01701, or to the charity of one's choice.
