Stephen Gardner Obituary

Stephen D. Gardner died on February 22, 2010, at age 58 in Boston from complications related to a bone marrow transplant after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. Formerly of Newton, Lowell, and Ashland. The cherished brother of H. Joseph Gardner and his wife, Nancy, of Needham, Kathleen T. Hebden and her husband, Robert, of Ashland, Jeanne T. Hunt and her significant other, Gerald Coletti, of North Easton, E. Richard Hunt and his fiancee, Kathleen Moore, of Newton, Patricia Hunt Sinacole and her husband, Jay, of Hopkinton and W. Sean Hunt and his wife, Lauren, of San Diego, Calif. Steve also leaves many loving nieces and nephews, Cara and Caitlin Tirrell, E. Richard, Kellin and Rachel Hunt, Courtney and Christopher Gardner and Haley and Daniel Sinacole, as well as several aunts and many cousins. Steve was the beloved son of the late Margaret F. (Murphy) Hunt and the late Edwin Richard Hunt, both of Newton. Steve was also predeceased by his sister, Patricia Jean Gardner. Steve was a longtime member of The HAC of Newton. Steve graduated from Newton High School in 1969 and attended the University of Massachusetts at Boston. For many years, Steve worked as a manufacturing supervisor for several companies throughout Massachusetts. Those wishing may make memorial contributions in Steves memory to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 02102. Please also consider registering to become a bone marrow donor through the National Donor Marrow Program (www.marrow.org). Steves family is grateful for the wonderful care that he received over the past four years from everyone at Beth Israel Hospital as well as the concern, support and prayers from his many friends and extended family members. He faced his illness with a quiet strength, bravery and, at times, even humor. His funeral will be from the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home, 465 Centre St., Newton Corner on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 8 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Bernards Church, Washington Street, West Newton at 9 a.m.. The nurses (Charlie, Cheryl and Michelle)in the Photopheresis unit @ BIDMC want to express our sympathy to Steve's family and Paula. Steve was special to all of us in the unit and he had a long and painful journey but always had a smile to offer to all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you in your time of sorrow.
