PIQUA - Bert M. Shaner, 79, of Piqua, passed away peacefully at 1:35 a.m. Sunday, August 8, 2021 at his residence. He was born September 1, 1941 in Shelby County to the late Virgil and Ida (Cavender) Shaner. He married Regina (Shumaker) Shaner April 7, 1962 in Oran, and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Barry (Chrisann) Shaner of Sylvania, Ken (Kathy) Shaner of Sharonville, and James Shaner of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Sara Shaner, Aaron Shaner, Elizabeth Shaner, Kara (Mike) Fitzpatric, Kyle (Brianna) Shaner, Hunter Shaner, Quinn Shaner, and Alex Shaner; three great grandchildren, Reagan, Reid, and Remy Shaner; a brother, Paul Shaner of Piqua; and a sister in law, Sheila Shumaker of Piqua; also many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Marissa Shaner; two brothers, Joe and John Shaner; and a sister, Irene Maxwell.
Mr. Shaner was a graduate of Houston High School Class of 1960. He retired after 39 years in shipping for BF Goodrich. Bert was a longtime, faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church. Bert was previously active with the church's bowling league, and was a Webelo leader for the Cub Scouts Pack 7, and chairman of the awards committee. He enjoyed taking care of his lawn, and also would assist in caring for other's yards if they were unable to do so. Bert loved to tend to his world class roses as well. He and the family enjoyed their almost annual trips to Pigeon Forge and Coldwater Michigan.
A service to honor his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 13, 2021 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Fox officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 9411 N County Rd 25A, Piqua OH 45356, or to Hospice of Miami County Inc., P.O. Box 502, Troy OH 45373.
