Betty Huffman

1940 - 2021

Betty Huffman joined her lord on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, after a brief illness. She was born to the late Ralph William Lukens and Mildred Ann (Helsley) Lukens on Oct. 21,1940.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 half sisters: Margaret (Sis) and infant baby, Marge. Margaret's husband Neil (Shorty) Garringer, one nephew David (Bo) and wife Mary Garringer and their son Todd.

She is survived by her dear sister and brother in law, Virginia and Charles (Chuck) Fay of Christiansburg, along with her special nieces and nephews: David (Linda) Fay of Christiansburg, Sue (Ron) Manis of Troy, and Mike (Susan) Fay of Troy. She is also survived by her late half sister (Margaret's) children: Larry (Mick) Garringer, Dennis (Elise) Garringer, and Sharon Hagler all from Washington Court House. She is also survived by fifteen grand nieces and nephews, and thirty-three great grand nieces and nephews, seven great great grand nieces and nephews.

She had two life long friends, Sandi Uszynski and the late Karen Mason and one guardian angel and friend, Wava E. Miller. Betty also had several special furry friends: the late Little Bit and Buddy Fay. As well as her own beloved late feline, Babee. These furry friends gave her great companionship. As she said, "they all kept her safe". We used to joke around as to whom would get custody of Little Bit and Buddy, if their parents passed away first. It was decided that there would have to be shared custody. LOL!

Betty graduated from Christiansburg-Jackson in 1958. She attended the Ohio State University and graduated from Urbana College, with an Associates degree. She retired from Hobart Brothers (Ametek) of Troy in 2001 after 43 years of a fulfilling career in sales and marketing.

Betty loved sports and played women's softball and bowling for years. She also enjoyed the outdoors and animals. After retirement she moved from her country home to her home in Christiansburg. She spent many hours sitting on her porch swing, waiving to friends. She loved moving into Christiansburg where everybody welcomed her with open arms. She especially enjoyed daily visits to her sisters. When she wasn't on her porch swing she could often be found eating at Loretta's Country Kitchen where the staff doted over her. Betty's entire family gave her much fulfillment in life. She was always involved with her nieces and nephews many activities and family affairs. Betty sang in the Methodist Church choir in St. Paris for many years and when she moved into town she joined the Christiansburg United Methodist Church. Betty was kind and attentive to family and friends while overcoming great adversity in life. She set an example for all that, nothing is impossible. She was not one to lament her condition, but maintained a steadfast spirit. She focused on the task at hand with a courageous heart. She inspired others with her resolve, which will give each of us courage. She was accomplished in her career and pursued reading, gardening and maintaining her property in her leisure time. She had a hearty laugh and was of good humor. Aunt Betty was loved by her family and friends. She will be sorely missed. Her death will create a void in the life of her sister and brother in-law (who was always her left hand). We all long to see her blue car pass by her sister's house picture window one more time. She would have us all look forward, strengthened by her example and overcome the obstacles that we all encounter in our lives.

Visitation will start at 2:30pm on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at the Christiansburg United Methodist Church in the social room. She requested Pastor Maggie Sykes to officiate her funeral and that will begin at approximately 3:30pm. Her final resting place will be at the Upper Honey Creek Cemetery (Christiansburg).
