PIQUA - Clara J. Sowry, 88, of Piqua, passed away peacefully at 10:09 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2023, in the comfort of her home.
She was born July 25, 1935, in Piqua to the late John S. "Jack" and Helen Johanna (Decker) Jordan.
She married Douglas Sowry May 28, 1955, in Piqua; and he preceded her in death September 25, 2004.
Survivors include two sons, Mark (Robin) Sowry of Upper Arlington, Scott (Jenny) Sowry of San Rafael, California; four grandchildren, Marcus Sowry, Skyler Sowry, Madeline Sowry, and Issalina Sowry. She was preceded in death by five brothers, and two sisters.
Mrs. Sowry was a 1953 graduate of Piqua Catholic High School. She worked for many years as the Financial Secretary at Piqua High School, then as the principal's secretary before she retired. Following her retirement, she enjoyed her part-time job at Joe Thoma Jewelers. She was highly active in the Women's Golf League at Echo Hill Golf Course and loved to play golf every chance she could. She was a talented Bridge player and enjoyed various card clubs over the years. She was an avid sports fan and always followed the Cincinnati Bengals, Ohio State Buckeyes and her beloved Cincinnati Reds; and she would watch every game she could. Most importantly, she loved her family very much and absolutely adored her grandchildren and cherished all the time she was able to spend with them.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Eric Bowman as Celebrant. The family will receive friends following Mass in the Caserta Center Cafeteria. Arrangements are being handled through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tom Jordan Scholarship Fund c/o Lehman High School, 2400 St. Mary's Ave., Sidney OH 45365.
