PIQUA — Flavil J. Pollock Jr., 91 of Piqua, passed away at 5:19 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the Miami Valley Hospital. He was born September 19, 1929 in Old Hickory, Tennessee to the late Flavil J. and Vena V. (Clay) Pollock Sr.. Flavil grew up a lone child near Napier, Tennessee along the Natchez Trace.
He was blessed with several first cousins who helped fill the void of brothers and sisters. When the family moved to Piqua in 1939 to find work, the family lived for a while with his aunt and uncle. In his new neighborhood with kids, he developed many close relationships that lasted thru his adult life. Junior, as he was mostly known, never met a stranger. In high school he met his sweet heart, Gladys L. Apple. They were married June 17, 1951 in Piqua; she preceded him in death May 10, 2010.
Survivors include a son, Flavil Martin (Jackie) Pollock Sr. of Piqua; a daughter-in-law, Laurie V. Pollock of Wichita Falls, Texas; and four grandsons: F. Martin Pollock Jr., M. Alexander Pollock, Zane (Rachel) Pollock, Colter Pollock. He was preceded in death by a son, Bradley S. Pollock on October 23, 2014 and an infant brother.
Mr. Pollock was a 1948 graduate of Piqua Central High School and served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War. He retired from a long and notable career as an independent Painting Contractor in the Miami County area. Flavil was a member of the Greenview United Church of Christ of Plattsville, American Legion Post #184, V.F.W. Post #4874, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #523. He enjoyed hunting in his early years, playing golf from childhood, and loved to travel especially where he could be the pilot which included a trip to Alaska. Flavil along with family & friends maintained and refurbished two Bonanza "V" tail airplanes during his forty-one years of piloting. Flavil was known for his ready smile, his quick wit, and his willingness to help others. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends.
A graveside service to honor his life will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev.
