Jack Leonard

1932 - 2022

NOVI, MI -- Jack Allen Leonard of Novi, Michigan was born October 18, 1932 in Piqua, Ohio to Charles Albert and Margaret Annabell (nee: Staley) Leonard. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on June 18, 2022 at the age of 89.

Jack was the beloved husband of 62 years to the late Jane Lee (nee: Mutzner) Leonard, formerly of Covington, Ohio. Loving father of Kirk (Laura) Leonard, Cindy (Bill) Killian, Sandy (Kevin) Finnerty and Scott (Ann) Leonard. Grandfather of Tracy (John) Frith, Dan Killian, Krista (Jeff) Mitchell, Shamus Finnerty, Jeff (Abby) Killian, Brenden Finnerty, Brittany Leonard, Amanda Leonard and Stephanie Leonard. Great grandfather of Wesley, Elliana, Kaylee, Emmett, Kalli and Brayden. Dear brother of the late Joan (Leroy) Steinke of Piqua and the late Charles (Mary) Leonard of Sidney. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Jack graduated in 1950 from Piqua High School where he lettered in football, baseball, and basketball. He also participated actively in boxing with the Piqua YMCA and competed in the 1950 AAU Golden Gloves. He was the first in his family to attend college, working his way through Bowling Green University. While there, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, serving as its president during his senior year. He also was a very successful member of the BGU wrestling team. In his senior year he was elected to Omicron Delta Kappa, a national honor society for leadership achievements. He graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration and accepted a sales position with IBM. During his time in college he also trained and served as a member of the Navy Air Corps Reserves. In August 1956 he married Jane Lee Mutzner at the Covington Church of the Brethren. They began their married life in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, later moving to Mansfield, Ohio, and finally relocating to the Birmingham-Bloomfield area of Michigan. His career with IBM in sales and management spanned over 30 years. After retirement from IBM he worked for O/E Systems. He also started a successful rental home business which continues today.

Jack was a wonderful husband and father and dedicated his life to providing for his family, which is how he would like to be remembered. It gave him great pleasure to spend time with immediate and extended family and friends. He was an avid golfer, skier and hunter and treasured the friends who took part in these activities with him. Jack and Jane continued to engage socially throughout their lives, traveling and enjoying life. He will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 340 North Pontiac Trail, Walled Lake, Michigan on Saturday, August 13th at 11:00 AM with a memorial luncheon to follow. Friends may visit Friday, August 12th from 4-7 PM and Saturday 10:30 AM until time of service. A family committal service will be at Glen Eden Memorial Park Cemetery on Saturday, August 13th at 9:30 AM. Memorials to Hospice of Michigan are appreciated.
