COVINGTON - Janice Eileen "Dutch" Meyer, 89, passed away Tuesday morning, March 21, 2023, at Ohio's Hospice, Troy. She was born April 27, 1933, in Covington, to the late Carl and Josephine (Hecker) Miller. Janice married Louis J. "Joe" Meyer Jr. on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1954, a marriage that lasted over 64½ years until Joe's death on June 11, 2019. Also preceding her in death were her infant brother Jimmy Miller, brother Tom Miller and his wife Lois, and brother-in-law Henry Anderson.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law Janice Anderson and Virginia Kiser, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Janice received the greatest joy from her family, sons Jim (Deb) and Jay (Lori); her grandchildren Krista (Nate) Gibson, Jarod Meyer, Jason (Ashley) Meyer, Jordan Meyer, Michelle Meyer and Andrea (Grant) Westfall. She also was blessed with eleven great-grandchildren whom she deeply cherished: Joshua, Kamryn & Jackson Gibson, Matilyn & Alayna Meyer, Taylor, Charlotte & Harper Meyer, Amelia, Peyton & Lucas Westfall.
Janice was a 1951 graduate of Covington High School. She attended Wittenberg University, earning her Bachelor's in Education. She put her teaching degree to great use, positively impacting hundreds of young boys and girls in the Covington and Troy School Districts (Concord School) for 32 years, teaching kindergarten, first and third grades.
After retirement, she volunteered as a tutor in the Covington Schools and was very active with the Covington Outreach Association. She served 28 years as a trustee of the J.R. Clarke Public Library in Covington. She enjoyed following the various activities in which her sons and grandchildren participated, especially their sporting events.
In 2010, Janice and Joe were named "Mr. and Mrs. Covington" during the 175th Anniversary celebration of the beautiful village where she spent her entire life. She loved living in Covington.
Janice always looked forward to going to church and had a special place in her heart for St. John's Lutheran Church in Covington, where she was a member, and Friedens Lutheran Church in Bloomer. After Joe's passing in 2019, her dear friend Vonda Kessler took her to church every Sunday when she was able.
Whether you knew her as Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Janice, or Dutch, she had an exceptional way of connecting with people and making them feel special. She had a card ministry that spanned decades, sending cards with hand-written notes to friends and family on special occasions. She also gifted Advent candles during the month of December to families with young children. Next to her family, her passion was helping others.
Funeral services to honor her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 27, at Friedens Lutheran Church, 11038 W. Versailles Rd., Covington, with Pastor Ippy Mwakabonga officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Moore Funeral Home, 10 S. High St., Covington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of the J. R. Clarke Public Library, 102 E. Spring St., Covington, OH 45318. Online condolences may be left for the Meyer family at www.moorefh.com.

My mother so appreciated her long friendship with your Mom. When she spoke about her, it was always with such an appreciative and respectful tone. Your mom was one of the kindest people I have ever met. Your mom will always be with you in your hearts.
