Lois Scott Obituary

PIQUA - Lois Irene Koons Scott went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 30, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Eugene Scott, after 73 years of marriage. She had three children, who survive: Brenda Scott Vetter (James), Rex Scott (Cyndie Huffman), and Sherry Scott Schaefer (Patrick). Lois had six grandchildren: Joshua Scott Vetter (Amy), Crystal Scott Davis (Barry), Heather Scott Casto (Trevor), Matthew Schaefer (Darla), Ben Schaefer (Keasha), and Laura Schaefer Browner (Jordan). She had 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her family meant everything to her.

She was born November 5, 1925, to Arthur Ferris Koons and Evelyn McDonald Koons in Westerville, Ohio. At the time of her death, she was 99 years old.

A devout Christian, she followed where she was led and over the years attended the Evangelical United Brethren Church, The Assemblies of God, the Piqua Nazarene Church and Greene Street United Methodist churches. She served in musical ministries.While at Greene Street Church, she sang in the choir and also directed the Hand Bell Choir.

She was the pianist for church services at Greene Street and the Piqua Nazarene churches. Blessed with a lovely singing voice, she sang in the Community Chorus, under the direction ofBetty Hemmert, and sang for many years in a women's quartet with Carol Gould, Linda Richard, and Susan Hopkins.

She received her musical training and degrees in Music and English education from Miltonvale College, Kansas, Wesleyan Methodist College, Indiana, and Otterbein University, Westerville Ohio. While finishing her double major degree at Otterbein, she had a part time job, went to school full time, was married and already had 2 children! She was on the Dean's List every quarter.

When she retired from public school teaching, she had taught at Big Walnut and Sunbury schools in Columbus, Miami East schools, Russia school system, Troy Christian school, Christian Academy in Sidney, and was a substitute teacher at various area schools.

She also taught piano at Shepard's Music Store for several years.An avid theater participant, she was active in Piqua Players as an actress and musical director. She and her husband, Fred, enjoyed square dancing with the Happy Squares. She was active in the Piqua Music Club, Mother's Club, various vocal ensembles and accompanist for music groups and soloists in the area. Lois and Fred were active in the Miami County MS Support Group and Habitat for Humanity, Miami County. In fact, to accommodate Fred's wheelchair, their house was one of the first handicapped accessible houses built by habitat.

A memorial service for both Lois and Fred Scott will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions can be made to Miami County Habitat for Humanity.

So sorry to learn of your mother's passing. We got to know her through Greene Street United Methodist. She was a very talented lady and we know that she will be missed by all whose lives she has touched. Know that you will all be in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
