COVINGTON - Mary Alice Newbauer, age 85 of Covington, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2025, at the Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy.
Mary Alice was born in Darke County on March 20, 1940, to the (late) Palmer Edward & Evelyn Louise (Shuff) Newbauer. She was a graduate of Gettysburg High School, Class of 1958; two years of college at Bowling Green University, majoring in music. She was a professional musician and teacher, her last tenure was for Northmont Schools where she served for 50+ years, and she was a recipient of the Northmont Roll of Recognition. She started playing music when she was an 8th grader and her first church was Gettysburg United Methodist Church. On Sundays, you could find her playing for Bradford Church of the Brethren, Bradford Presbyterian Church, and Bradford United Methodist Church. Mary Alice played organ, piano, piccolo, and flute; she taught piano at school and also played organ and flute for weddings and funerals. She was a member of the Piqua Civic Band, Greenville Concert Band 1957-2022 and Sidney Concert Band until 2022. Preceded in death by her parents and nephew, Todd Lee Miller. Mary Alice is survived by her two sisters, Sara Lou & Bradley Jonas of Lebanon, OH and Linda Lee Newbauer of Barto, PA; nieces and nephews, Mark Lee & Cindy Miller, Theresa Lee & Brian Povenski, Scot & Jessica Jonas, Cara Louise Jonas & Brian Siler; many great-nieces and nephews; best friends, Donna Carney and Tami Tennison.
Funeral Service 12:00 Noon Friday at Common Ground Christian Church with Pastor John Shelton and Pastor Mike Buker officiating. Interment at Gettysburg Cemetery. Visitation at the church on Friday 10:00 AM. until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Greenville Community Band, 7147 Hammond Drive, Greenville, Ohio 45331. Condolences may be left for the family at www.stockerfraley.com.
