PIQUA -- Maxine L. Curtis, 92, of Piqua, died at 7:35 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Hospice of Miami County. She was born November 10, 1929 in Piqua to the late Roy and Ruth (Starr) Smitley. She married Charles F. Curtis August 25, 1951 in Piqua; and he preceded her in death December 30, 2016.
Survivors include a son, Jeff (Deedy) Curtis of Piqua; a daughter, Jan (James) Palmer of Piqua; five grandchildren, Lindsey (Nate) Penrod, Kelsey (Cory) Duke, Andy (Emily) Palmer, Kyle (Marie) Palmer, Eddie Palmer; and thirteen great grandchildren, Hannah, Jace, Aiden, Connor, Sophia, Audrey, Evan, Charlee, Kai, Beckett, Halle, Willow, and Kate. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Smitley, Walker Smitley; and one sister, Barbara Stonerock.
Mrs. Curtis was a graduate of Piqua Central High School. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She worked for a short time as an operator for Ohio Bell Telephone. She was a wonderful homemaker and mother. She enjoyed cooking, baking and was an avid reader. She was involved for many years in the Pins to Proms Mother's Club. Additionally, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a woman of great fortitude and kindness. When she said she was your friend, she lived up to that. She will be remembered for her caring nature and her sweet smile.
A service to honor her life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Pastor Carl McNeil officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church 310 S. Downing St. Piqua, OH 45356; Alzheimer's Association, 31 W. Whipp Rd., Dayton, OH 45459; or Hospice of Miami County, Inc. 3230 N. County Rd. 25A Troy, OH 45373.
