PIQUA - Richard "Rick" A. Haney, age 80, of Piqua, Ohio, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was born December 29,1944, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Robert L. and Lela E. (Spence) Haney.
Rick will be forever missed and remembered by his family and loved ones. He is survived by his four children: Jeffrey (Lesley) Haney, Piqua, OH; Jean (Donny) Anderson, St. Paris, OH; Lisa (Mark) Ashton, Piqua, OH; Amanda Haney (Tony Charles),Piqua, OH; one sister: Dianne Bair, Piqua, OH; 13 grandchildren: Kayla, Kierstin, Nick, Nathan, Nolan, Brady, Kyler, Kenzie, Kameron, Kenna, Kaiden, Savannah, Skye; 8 great grandchildren: Abrielle, Adeline, Nataliya, Peyton, Sylvia, Rowan, Sable, and Declan. Rick was preceded in death by 5 brothers: Robert (Jack) Haney, Clarence (Fuzzy) Haney, Jerald, (Jerry) Haney, Ronald (Ron) Haney, Keith Haney and 4 sisters: Joyce (Suzie) Lake, Shirley Denman, Beverly Miller, and Peggy Rose.
Rick retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. He loved to ride motorcycles, go primitive camping, and really enjoyed people watching (seeing the pretty ladies). He greatly enjoyed collecting anything with an engine and tinkering around. He also had a very soft spot for his cats, especially his companion Sunny who passed away the same day as Rick.
A Celebration of Life to honor Rick will be held at 10:30 am on Friday October 3,2025, at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home in Piqua, Ohio with Eric Fries officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday October 2,2025, from 5:00pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made in honor of Rick to: American Cancer Society 4540 Cooper Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45242 or Ohio's Hospice of Miami County 3230 N County Rd 25A, Troy, OH 45373.
