GREENVILLE - Walter Junior Doubledee, age 94 of the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, formerly of Bradford, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024 at Wayne Healthcare, Greenville.
Walter was born in Troy, Ohio on August 17, 1929 to the (late) Walter E. & Carrie (Reddy) Doubledee/
He was a graduate of Bradford High School, Class of 1948 and attended two years of college, and a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. Walter retired from Chrysler as a Tool Maker with 15 years of service, worked for NCR with 25 years of service; and retired with many years of service as a Paper Deliverer for Arens Corporation, Stillwater Advertiser.
He was a member of the Greenville Wesleyan Holiness Church. He was an Amateur Ham Radio Operator and played the clarinet for many years, as well as a professional tree trimmer for 20+ years.
In the past he was a Volunteer for Work & Witness on six trips to Montezuma, New Mexico, and Honduras and always helping people – he could never say no!
Preceded in death by his parents; two step-mothers, Mae Doubledee and Stella Doubledee; three sons in 1980, Dale Edward, David Lee, and Jack Steven Doubledee in a drowning accident; grandson, Tony Doubledee in 1983; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Verla & Nate Griffin and Rebecca & Bob Speaks.
Walter is survived by his wife of 69 years, Martha Jane (Henschen) Doubledee of the Brethren Retirement Community; his three children, John Mark & Jo Ann Doubledee of Arlington, TX, Timothy Allen & Jeannie Doubledee of Bradford, Bonnie Ruth & Kevin Wilt of Springfield, OH; seven grandchildren, Aaron & Ashley Doubledee, Benjamin & Laura Doubledee, Rebekah & Eddie Clark, Michael & Lori Wilt, Rachel & Dustin Oliver, Hannah & Jacob Ford, and Maisha & Jason Cropper; 24 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Clara Doubledee of Versailles; other relatives and a host of church family.
Funeral Service will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Bradford with Pastor Rodney Robbins officiating. Interment Harris Creek Cemetery, Bradford with Military Honors provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation 1:00 p.m. Friday until time of service at the funeral home.
