Donald Tschirhart

1944 - 2018

Donald Tschirhart, 74, of Bad Axe, passed away at his home on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018. Don was born in Detroit on Jan. 1, 1944, son of the late Wilfred T. and Frances (Cregeur) Tschirhart. He married Mary Elandt on May 27, 1967, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson. Don worked for Consumers Energy (Consumers Power) for 35 years, retiring in 2002. He moved to Essexville in 1980 and then to Midland in 1985. He returned to Bad Axe in 1989 and built his home. After retirement he bought a small farm and raised Angus cows and chickens and made maple syrup. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, working on building projects and spending time with his family and friends. Don is survived by his wife Mary Tschirhart of Bad Axe; son Scott (Christi) Tschirhart of Washington Township; daughter Lisa (Jeff) Fligger of Richmond; mother-in-law Dorothy Elandt of Bad Axe; three brothers Bob Tschirhart of Bad Axe, Ed (Marian) Tschirhart of Port Hope and Bill Tschirhart of Saginaw; sister Peggy Tschirhart of Harbor Beach; brothers-in-law Paul (Linda) Elandt of Port Hope, James (Elaine) Elandt of Sterling Heights, Larry (Frances) Elandt of Hampstead North Carolina; sister-in-law Linda (Bruce) Essenmacher of Harbor Beach; seven grandchildren Sean, Heather and Brendan Fligger of Richmond, Shelby Fligger of Royal Oak, Madilyn and Lucas Tschirhart of Cass City and Averie Zielinski of Washington Township; and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by one son Tony Tschirhart; father-in-law Henry Elandt; sister-in-law Marlene Tschirhart; and nephew Aaron Elandt. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at St. Hubert Parish-St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson. Officiating will be Fr. Rob Howe. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the service time at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe.
