Edward Adler Obituary

Edward "Ed" E. Adler

Edward Eugene Adler, 87, of Palmetto, Florida, passed away on the 8th of January, 2022, surrounded by his wife and children. Ed was born and raised in Ruth, Michigan. His father retired from farming when Ed was 11 years old and the family moved to Bad Axe, Michigan. Ed lived in his childhood home in Bad Axe for 71 years before moving to Palmetto.
Ed graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1952. After high school he worked on a lake freighter for Great Lakes Shipping for two seasons before joining the Army. He received his training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and served in Anchorage, Alaska for two years.
He worked at Great Lakes Mobile Homes in Marlette, Michigan; Hamill Manufacturing (seat belt) in Bad Axe, Michigan; and NutraSweet in Harbor Beach, Michigan.
Ed loved watching his children and grandchildren playing sports and performing in band concerts and marching competitions. He was a devoted Detroit Tigers and Michigan football fan. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe where he served as an usher and on the Financial Board for many years.
He was preceeded in death by his four siblings: Herman Adler, Anna Sawielski, William Adler, John Adler; his parents George and Laura (Klug) Adler, and his son-in-law Richard Meinhold.
Ed is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janet (Kennedy), his five children: Susan Meinhold (Grand Rapids, MI); Barbara (James) Weston (Grand Rapids, MI); Pamela (Shawn) McGuire (Las Vegas, NV); Steven (Deanna) Adler (Marshall, MI); Lynn Brown (Grand Rapids, MI). He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren: Cari (Bryan) Kitahara; Michael Meinhold (Jaclyn Siev); Brian Meinhold (Maddie Watson); Sara Weston (David Condon); David (Sophie) Weston; Aaron McGuire, Meg McGuire; Nicholas Adler, Elise Adler, Molly Adler, Grace Brown, and Nathaniel Brown. Ed was blessed with three great grandchildren: Connor and Cameron Kitahara and Reiya Meinhold Siev.
Ed had a wonderful gift of bringing laughter and smiles to others. He cherished the annual Adler family summer vacation held in northern Michigan where he was able to spend time with several generations of the family he and Janet started. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, servant leadership, and service to his country.
